The Riu Palace is Coming!

Well, the word on the street is that the Riu Palace Hotels & Resorts is currently sharpening their collective shovels to begin construction on a resort here in Huatulco before years end.

The project will be built in the Bay of Conejos and have a total of 952 rooms at a total build out cost of $60 million USD. The Riu has a storied history of building luxury properties and we expect this will be no different...except the fact that the density requirements here in Huatulco won't allow for any "mega towers".

There was concern that this project may no longer have legs as it has seen a two year delay from their initial launch date.  It appears though, that there is no longer any need for concern as they have received the "go-ahead" from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.  One of the main areas of concern was a natural marsh and mangrove area on this property and it looks as thought this area will be not only protected but incorporated into the overall design.

It seems that all wheels are in motion in Huatulco, and now that the highway project connecting Huatulco International Airport to the Bays of Huatulco is also in progress, development and expansion is inevitable.

We look forward to the future, and more information about the Riu Palace Hotels & Resorts Huatulco.
