The street taco scene is alive and well in Huatulco and there are many options at many different price points. However, one of my favorites is Arturo and Ema's "back seat tacos".
If you are looking for them just go down to Santa Cruz and look for their red wagon. It's generally parked in the exact same spot each morning, with the rear hatch wide open and full of delicious tacos.
This is a morning spot so you'll need to get there with breakfast in mind. They have a nice selection of breakfast tacos and at $8 pesos, it's pretty difficult to find a more delicious or economical breakfast anywhere in town. Try the picadillo de res or the bistec ranchera and I'm certain you will want to come back for more.
As it's pretty bare bones, you'll have to walk across the street to Cafe Huatulco to get your morning cup of Joe but they do have basic refreshments like bottled water and soda...and I'm sure if you asked them they might have a stash of Mezcal under the front seat.
While their tacos are great, that red car is pretty sweet also! I'm not exactly sure what it is but, if anyone knows please tell me! I'm thinking the last time I saw a car like this was on a re-run of Kojak. And what about his business model? Great! Low overhead, always mobile, no staffing issues, high product turnover, and they are finished work by noon!
Hmmm, I'm thinking of converting my Chevy Tahoe into a roving real estate office ;-)
will be in Huatulco in Feb. Gotta try those taco's
